Soft Magnetic Bulk Glassy Fe–B–Si–Nb Alloys with High Saturation Magnetization above 1.5 T
New Fe-based bulk glassy alloys were synthesized in the (Fe0.75B0.15Si0.10)100−x Nbx system by copper mould casting. The maximum diameter of the bulk glassy alloy rod was 0.5 mm at 1 at%Nb, 1.0 mm at 2 at%Nb and 1.5 mm at 4 at%Nb. No glass transition is observed at 0 at%Nb, but the addition of Nb causes the appearance of glass transition before crystallization. The glass transition temperature ...
متن کاملNew Pd-Based Bulk Glassy Alloys with High Glass-Forming Ability and Large Supercooled Liquid Region
With the aim of developing a new bulk glassy alloy which can be applied to biomedical applications, we examined glass-forming ability and mechanical properties of Ni-free glassy alloys in Pd50 xPtxCu30P20 system. As a result, the best glass-forming composition is located at Pd35Pt15Cu30P20, and the alloy can be formed into bulk glassy rods with diameters of up to at least 30mm by fluxed water q...
متن کاملUnusual glass-forming ability of bulk amorphous alloys based on ordinary metal copper.
We report the unusual glass-forming ability (GFA) of a family of Cu-based alloys, Cu46Zr47-xAl7Yx (0<x< or =10, in at. %), and investigate the origin of this unique property. By an injection mold casting method, these alloys can be readily solidified into amorphous structures with the smallest dimension ranging from 4 mm up to 1 cm without detectable crystallinity. Such superior GFA is found pr...
متن کاملHigh-entropy Alloys with High Saturation Magnetization, Electrical Resistivity, and Malleability
Soft magnetic materials (SMMs) find important applications in a number of areas. The diverse requirements for these applications are often demanding and challenging for the design and fabrication of SMMs. Here we report a new class of FeCoNi(AlSi)x (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.8 in molar ratio) SMMs based on high-entropy alloys (HEAs). It is found that with the compositional and structural changes, the optimal b...
متن کاملSearching for high magnetization density in bulk Fe: the new metastable Fe₆ phase.
We report the discovery of a new allotrope of iron by first principles calculations. This phase has Pmn2(1) symmetry, a six-atom unit cell (hence the name Fe6), and the highest magnetization density (Ms) among all the known crystalline phases of iron. Obtained from the structural optimizations of the Fe3C-cementite crystal upon carbon removal, Pmn2(1) Fe6 is shown to result from the stabilizati...
